Thankyou Marie. I know that sometimes things just happen and we don't understand why. I'm glad I have friends here that I can talk to about it.

Moulting:: My first molt...
Linda has given you good advise, and normally hermies will molt in one place and shed the whole exo. But there are occasions if interrupted during a molt they may only shed part of the exo, but then there is a high chance they will become stuck in the rest of it. Sometimes if they do a surface molt if there are any other hermies about they may drag off parts of the exo too. Please do section her off from the others until it is know what she is doing, or iso her if you have one.

Moulting:: Moulting or PPS?
If hermies are newbies, one should only offer a shallow substrate so they cannot dig down, but stay on top where they can eat, drink and adjust to their environment.
Chewin the Choya:: my new crabs!
Play sand is not one of the better choices of substrates. (in the caresheets too) But lots of reading about play sand:

http://crabbywiki.com/tiki-browse_cat ... 15&deep=off&type=

i've got one side deeper then the other. my largest crab is the only one who doesnt fit all the way under on the lower end but he knows where it is deeper so its no problem. I'll prolly add another inch or so when i clean the tank though

In the crabitat:: Here is my 20 Gallon tall, next is the 55 sitting in the garage!
so my tank looks pretty boring but it is extreamly easy to maintain right now so that makes everyone happy! I think I need more green vines or something any suggestions would be great! I keep the water and food easy to reach. Having a hard time getting my pictures to upload. sigh... I wish I was better at this stuff. We have 8 crabs in our 55 gallon. I think that is good since they all keep growing!

This is such a cool idea. I am quite the nerd B) so I have to have more details. Where did you bore the holes for the tubing? The pics were a little blurry for me, my vision not being what it used to be and the bifocals are still new. Could I get written, step-by-step instructions if it's not too much trouble?

General Care:: Eco Earth
Eco Earth is inexpensive enough that I wouldn't try washing and re-using. I don't even think that with washing you could even get all the feces and urine out of it. I have used EE for many years as a substrate for my reptiles and my hermies and never had a gnat problem. I think it depends on where you live and maybe what little critters have access to your tank. Now I have had mites in my tank and just recently finally got rid of them. It wasn't because I was iusing EE. I found the source and threw it out!

General Care:: Humidity and Smell
I use all Eco Earth which is compressed coconut fiber as well and it does have an earthy odor when first hydrated but I wouldn't say that it smells that bad. I tried the half EE and half sand for a short time and I couldn't keep the sand from wicking all the moisture from the EE and my hermies stayed on the EE side most of the time so I switched to all EE.
